As Americans celebrate Thanksgiving Day, I want to personally thank all Pacific Fleet Sailors and civilians for their service, and their families for their support. I will be spending Thanksgiving with families at the Fisher House here in Hawaii. A special thanks to Sailors standing the watch at sea and to our individual augmentees -- we are all grateful for your sacrifice to be away from your family and friends.
- It was a thrill to be pierside today for the arrival of the Navy's newest and most advanced destroyer, USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112). Her homeporting here at Pearl Harbor enhances our warfighting readiness and demonstrates a clear commitment...to our Pacific rebalance strategy. I want to extend a personal Aloha to the crew and their loved ones as they join our Pacific Fleet family. Just as the ship's namesake Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy left his mark on our nation, I know this crew will make its presence felt throughout the vital Asia-Pacific region. Welcome home!See More

- Join me this Veterans Day weekend in appreciation of all those who have served our nation in uniform, especially our Wounded Warriors who always inspire me with their tenacity and positive attitude. Those of us who serve today feel a great sense of pride for those veterans who showed us the way, and we owe them a great deal of respect and a debt of gratitude. Each of us has played a role in defending our great nation at home and protecting our interests abroad, so please take the time to attend a Veterans Day ceremony or to shake the hand of those who are heroes of past wars. Thank you for your service.

If you are on our Navy-Marine Corps team, I need your undivided attention about this issue of destructive behavior. Two Navy Sailors were indicted this week in Okinawa following the rape of a Japanese woman. We deeply regret the grief and t...rauma the victim has endured and the anger it has caused among people in Okinawa. I am appalled that such violent criminal behavior reportedly emerged from our ranks. Bad decisions and destructive behavior impact us all. If you are part of the wider military family, I encourage you to make this a topic of conversation -- your influence can make a difference. We will tackle this, and we can do it together.See More- November is Military Family Appreciation Month and a good opportunity for all of us to reflect on their support and sacrifice that ultimately contributes to mission accomplishment. The foundation of our Fleet is our people, and our families are the foundation on the homefront. To our military families, please accept my personal gratitude for your contribution to ensuring peace and stability in the vital Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
