AmeriCorps NCCC Atlantic Region New Campus Dedication in Baltimore, MD : Civic leaders, elected officials, and community groups joined together to dedicate the new AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) Atlantic Region Campus at the former Sacred Heart of Mary School in Baltimore. AmeriCorps NCCC, which is administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), engages more than 1,600 individuals aged 18 to 24 each year who address critical needs related to natural and other disasters, infrastructure improvement, environmental stewardship and conservation, energy conservation, and urban and rural development. The Baltimore-based campus will become a training facility for members who will serve in Maryland and 13 other states and territories.

Senior Corps WH Convening September 2012 : On Monday, September 10, American volunteers above age 55 took center stage at a White House event underscoring the impact of senior citizens who are making remarkable contributions to their communities. The White House program, part of the White House Community Leaders Briefing Series, included individuals and groups associated with Senior Corps. Administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service, Senior Corps counts more than 330,000 volunteers age 55 and over who are serving through three key programs: Foster Grandparents, Senior Companions, and RSVP.

KaBOOM NIH Build July 2012 : KaBOOM! lead 200 volunteers, parents, medical professionals, and employees from MedImmune to build a safe place for the children and The Children's Inn, a residential "place like home" for sick children and their families at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD. President’s Interfaith Community Service Campus Challenge 2012 : President Obama’s Interfaith Campus Challenge went out to colleges and universities just over one year ago. The President challenged students from diverse faith backgrounds – Christian, Muslim, Hindu, and Jewish, religious and non-religious alike – to partner together, across religious lines, to serve their community. The response has been absolutely overwhelming, with 270 campuses participating and thousands of students serving their communities and building religious tolerance. The White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, the Department of Education, and the Corporation for National and Community Service organized the event.

FEMA Corps Launch March 13, 2012 : The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced an innovative new partnership designed to continue to strengthen the nation's ability to respond to and recover from disasters while expanding career opportunities for young people. FEMA Corps is a historic collaboration which will create a new unit of AmeriCorps' National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) whose members will be devoted solely to FEMA disaster response, and recovery efforts. The five-year agreement provides for a full service corps of 1,600 members annually who will be an additional workforce in support of FEMA's current disaster reserve workforce.

KaBOOM 15th Birthday June 2011 : On Wednesday, the Corporation for National and Community Service joined First Lady Michelle Obama, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Members of Congress and their spouses, along with AmeriCorps members and over 150 volunteers for the annual Congressional Day of Service event at a KaBOOM! event. To celebrate its 15th Birthday, KaBOOM! organized a Washington, DC playground build – the 2000th of its kind – at SouthEast Public Charter School, a school with no playground equipment for its 480 students.

Habitat for Humanity Build March 2011 : Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake (HFHC) and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) teamed up with more than 125 veterans, active duty military and AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members to help build and rehabilitate homes in Annapolis and Baltimore, March 17 - 18. Corporation for National and Community Service CEO Patrick A. Corvington and Dr. Erwin Tan, director, Senior Corps and Strategic Advisor, Veterans and Military Families of CNCS, joined in building. The build is meant to honor the “invaluable service to America that veterans and active duty military service and AmeriCorps members have contributed over the years,” said HFHC CEO Mike Mitchell. “It is an honor for me, our staff and our board members to work along with these outstanding public servants as they help to build houses in partnership with low-income families and also help to revitalize neighborhoods.”

Make a Difference Day - KaBOOM! Build, October 2010 : On Saturday October 23rd, more than 500 volunteers from the White House, the Corporation for National and Community Service, federal agencies and the local community volunteered as part of Make a Difference day. 2010 marked the 20th anniversary of this day, an effort led by USA Weekend and the HandsOn Network. Together these volunteers build a complete playground in just under six hours at Hyde Leadership Public Charter School. Attendees included Secretary Arne Duncan, from the Department of Education; Secretary Tom Vilsack, from the Department of Agriculture; Secretary Ray LaHood from the Department of Transportation; Secretary Tom Donovan from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Corporation for National and Community Service CEO Patrick Corvington.

The volunteer projects were supported by Greater DC Cares, Operation Kid Comfort, and the Armed Service YMCA. First Lady Michelle Obama Volunteers on 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance - September 2010 : First Lady Michelle Obama joined Corporation for National and Community Service CEO Patrick Corvington and nearly two hundred veterans, active duty service members, retirees and student volunteers in serving together to renovate the Vinson Hall Retirement Community in McLean, VA. Vinson Hall is supported by the Navy marine Coast Guard Residence Foundation and among its residents are Navy Veterans of the Battles of Pearl Harbor and Midway. Together, they repainted the loading dock’s walls and ceiling, painted the sprinkler system, restained and repaired wood ramps, and repainted and resealed the cement floor. Other volunteers worked together on a gardening project. The First Lady joined Americans across the country in marking the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by participating in service and remembrance activities.
