Alexander Announces Enzi, Burr and Isakson to Serve as HELP Subcommittee Republican Leaders

Washington, D.C., February 13 – At an executive session today of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, Ranking Member U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) announced that Senators Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) will serve as Republican subcommittee leaders.
Alexander said, “This committee has a broad agenda with especially important work ahead of us this Congress and I’m committed to seeing us do what we all came here to do—mark up bills in committee, go to the floor with amendments, pass bills, and go to conference with the House—so we can improve the health of our children and our parents, and improve workplaces without putting job-destroying regulations on employers. I can think of no senators better suited to lead on finding ways to improve the health and education of American families than Senators Enzi, Burr, and Isakson.”
Senator Mike Enzi will lead the Subcommittee on Children and Families, which has jurisdiction over issues including Head Start; child care and child support, such as programs that fall under the Child Care & Development Block Grant; the Family Medical Leave Act; National Service; women and children’s healthcare; and other issues involving children, youth, and families.
Senator Richard Burr (R-N.C.) will lead the Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging, which has jurisdiction over issues including: The Older Americans Act; elder abuse, neglect, and scams affecting seniors; long-term-care services for older Americans; community health centers; The Health Resources and Services Act; oral health; health-care disparities; Alzheimer's disease; and family caregiving.
Senator Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) will lead the Subcommittee on Employment and Workplace Safety, which has jurisdiction over employment issues, including workforce education and training, worker health and safety, wage and hour laws, and workplace flexibility.
The Children and Families subcommittee includes Senators Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), Burr, Isakson, Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Pat Roberts (R-Kan.).
The Primary Health and Aging subcommittee includes Senators Roberts, Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Enzi, and Kirk.
The Employment and Workplace Safety includes Senators Paul, Hatch, and Tim Scott (R-S.C.).
Alexander is a “member ex officio” of all three subcommittees, which means he holds those positions by virtue of his role as Ranking Member of the committee.
