The United States is committed to halting the spread of nuclear weapons around the globe, and to reversing the expectation that people are destined to live in a world with many nuclear-armed states. The United States actively discourages non-nuclear states from acquiring or testing nuclear weapons, and promotes the reduction of existing weapons programs.
