  • An RRP Workshop in 2010 has resulted in a publication by Justin Bekelman et al: Redesigning Radiotherapy Quality Assurance: Opportunities to Develop an Efficient, Evidence-Based System to Support Clinical Trials: Report of the National Cancer Institute Work Group on Radiotherapy Quality Assurance. This report is timely for the emerging changes in the Cooperative Group organization that require new approaches to quality assurance. Clin Trials 2012:9;66-79. doi: 10.1177/1740774511433048

  • In fall 2011, RRP co-sponsored a workshop entitled “Targeting Genetic and Epigenetic Instabilities in Cancer Therapy” with the NCI Division of Cancer Biology, chaired by Drs. Bruce Alberts and Titia de Lange. A meeting summary is being prepared for publication.

  • In September 2011, RRP co-sponsored a workshop entitled “Radiation Dose is More Than a Number” with the Medical Countermeasures against Radiological and Nuclear Threats Program of NIAID and with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The workshop highlighted the importance and necessity of dosimetry standardization in radiation research for both in vitro and in vivo studies employing small or large animal models, and developed a plan for dosimetry standardization and reporting for radiation biology, including a formal system for coordinating standardization efforts and the establishment of a continuing education series through national conference tutorials, publications, and web-based resources.

  • An RRP workshop in December 2011 addressed the issues of null clinical trials, the quantity and quality of preclinical data that were available to guide their design, and how preclinical studies might be designed to be more informative for the design and conduct of future clinical trials. Discussions included emerging methods for studying radiation plus molecular targeted therapy. A meeting summary is being prepared for publication.
