ADS Center FAQ


What services do you provide?
The SAMHSA ADS Center enhances social acceptance and inclusion by ensuring that people with mental health problems can live full, productive lives within communities without fear of prejudice and discrimination. We provide information and assistance to develop successful efforts to counteract prejudice and discrimination and promote social inclusion. The ADS Center:

  • Provides useful resources and information about effective approaches for people or organizations interested in countering discrimination and social exclusion.
  • Makes others aware of research on social exclusion and discrimination, including research regarding the public's attitudes about, and behaviors toward people with mental illnesses.
  • Offers information about available publications and issues of relevance regarding discrimination and social exclusion.
  • Provides literature that addresses discrimination and social exclusion.
  • Offers technical assistance and training to help others create their initiatives to increase social inclusion and decrease discrimination, or information to help connect individuals with effective campaigns and programs that already exist in their community.

How can I find out about the different programs and campaigns available to counter discrimination and social exclusion?
The ADS Center continuously researches campaigns and programs (Local, State, National, and International). To get the most update information on campaigns and programs, you may visit our online map: http://www.promoteacceptance.samhsa.gov/map or call us at 1-800-540-0320 Monday through Friday from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Eastern time.

How can I receive copies of publications, articles, and other information provided by the ADS Center?
Please contact the ADS Center at 1-800-540-0320 or email us at promoteacceptance@samhsa.hhs.gov with your request.

I received an announcement about a teleconference training the ADS Center is hosting. How can I participate?
All teleconferences hosted by the ADS Center are open to the public at no cost. You can register for our teleconferences through our web site, http://www.promoteacceptance.samhsa.gov/teleconferences or you may contact us directly to register at 1-800-540-0320. You will be provided with a confirmation via email 1-3 days prior to the teleconference training. This confirmation will provide you with all the necessary information to dial in and participate.

Can I receive continuing education credits from participating in any of the ADS Center teleconference trainings?
Unfortunately, we cannot provide continuing education credits.

What materials are needed to participate in ADS Center teleconference trainings?
All ADS Center trainings are hosted via telephone and use the Microsoft Live Meeting software. We provide you with the instructions on downloading the software you will need for the teleconference. You may also access the presentation slide show directly from our web site http://www.promoteacceptance.sahmsa.gov/teleconferences.htm.

I registered for the upcoming teleconference training, but I did not receive a confirmation.
Confirmation emails are sent 1-3 days before a teleconference. If you do not receive it, please check your bulk mail, spam, and/or junk folders. Some e-mail providers automatically direct e-mail to these folders. If you are still unable to locate it, call the ADS Center directly at 1-800-540-0320 or promoteacceptance@samhsa.hhs.gov.
