Tracking POV overseas shipping
The government will ship one Privately Owned Vehicle (POV) at its expense to or from an overseas location. Contact your transportation office for details. Remember to discuss your POV shipping or other transportation needs at your initial PCS counseling session. The shipping contractor has established the Where is my POV website to track your POV through the shipping process.
Department of Defense Decals
In accordance with All Army Activity message 343/2011, military installations no longer register vehicles on post or issue installation decals. All vehicular access to the installation requires 100 percent ID check.
Day Passes
Non-DoD affiliated personnel wishing to enter the installation may be given a day pass. Visitors include those who use Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation activities or facilities; family, friends and guests of military personnel, and contractors performing work on the installation. Day passes are available, with proper ID, vehicle registration, proof of insurance, and sponsor information, from the Visitor Center, located adjacent to the 101st Street Gate.

New York State Laws
Seatbelts: You and your passengers must always wear seatbelts while driving; you will be ticketed and issued heavy fines if seatbelts are not buckled. State law requires that all children under 6 years of age be properly restrained in child seats. Some states also require younger, smaller children to sit in the back seat.
Motorcycles: Motorcycles and their operators are subject to DoD Instruction 6055.4, Army Regulation 385-10 and the Fort Hamilton Command Policy. Motorcycle operators must have a motorcycle endorsed state driver’s license, state registration and valid proof of insurance. Motorcycle operators must wear a Department of Transportation-certified helmet, eye protection, long-sleeved shirt, full-length leather gloves, trousers, and over-the-ankle shoes. In accordance with the above regulations, motorcycle operators must wear contrasting colors during daytime operation, and a reflective vest or belt during night time operation.
Cell Phones:
The use of cellular telephones, without a hands-free device, while driving is illegal in the state of New York, and is in violation of Army Regulation 190-1. Fort Hamilton has a zero tolerance policy with cellphones and driving—particularly texting while driving. Tickets will be issued and fines assessed for violating these laws and regulations. Hands-free devices must be used while operating a motor vehicle on ALL military installations worldwide.
New York Registration & Licensing Requirements
New York State law requires you to have sufficient liability insurance and a valid driver's license in order to operate a vehicle. The term "vehicle" generally includes automobiles, motorcycles, vans, trailers and boats regularly parked or garaged overnight. Further, your vehicle must be properly registered.
