Making Sense of DNA Backlogs 2010: Myths vs. Realities (pdf, 20 pages).

From 2004-2010,[1] the Forensic DNA Backlog Reduction Program assists eligible States and units of local government to reduce forensic DNA sample turnaround time, increase the throughput of public DNA laboratories and reduce DNA forensic casework backlogs. In 2011, NIJ combined this program with the Convicted Offender/Arrestee DNA Backlog Reduction Program to form the DNA Backlog Reduction Program.

Note

[1] In 2007, the Forensic Casework and Capacity Enhancement backlog reduction programs were merged into the Forensic DNA Backlog Reduction Program, which maintains the objectives of both programs. Totals for 2004–2006 are a combination of funding awarded under the former Forensic Casework and Capacity Enhancement programs.
