Finding Resources on the Site

To get started, there are two ways you can find information on Disability.gov.

  1. Use the Search Box, located on the home page, directly beneath the Disability.gov logo; or
  2. Use the Information by Topic menu on the left side of the home page.

The Search Box

Type a word or phrase into the Search Box and select the “Search” button.

Did you get too many search results? You can narrow your search results by choosing from the options under Topic(s) or Subtopic(s), Audience(s), Disability Type(s) or Location(s) on the left side of the page. Each time you select an option, such as Parents & Guardians under Audience(s), your search results will show only resources for the option(s) you selected.

You can also enter a different word or phrase in the Your Search Results box to look for more specific resources within your current search results. Use the “View” drop-drop down menu to choose the number of resources you would like listed on each page. Then, select the “Search” button.

You can remove items from your search criteria by selecting the red “x” in the Your Search Criteria box on the left side of the page. To start a brand new search, select “Start a New Search.”

Information by Topic

To find Information by Topic, use the menu on the left side of the home page to pick a subject, such as Education. Next, decide whether you want to search both national and state resources, search only state resources or search only national resources, and choose the appropriate blue box.

If you select “Search Both National & State” or “Search State Resources Only,” you will need to choose a state from the map, which will appear below the blue boxes.

Type a word or phrase into the Search Box and select the “Search” button.
