Air Quality in Parks
Air pollution affects scenic and natural resources in national parks, including lakes, streams, plants, and wildlife. Click on the map or use the dropdown lists to find park and network specific information on air quality conditions and impacts.
Class I NPS areas have the highest level of air quality protection under the law. These areas are defined as national parks larger than 6,000 acres or wilderness areas over 5,000 acres that were in existence when the Clean Air Act was amended in 1977. Choose a Class I park from the map or the list above for park specific air quality information.
National park units with significant natural resources are grouped into networks based on similar ecosystems and management issues. Networks provide a spatial framework for ecosystem assessment, research, inventories, monitoring, and management. Choose an Inventory & Monitoring (I&M) network from the map or list above to find network specific air quality information.
