Debra J. Saunders, Administrative Officer

Debra J. Saunders serves as the Administrative Officer in the Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking (SMART) for the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs (OJP). Ms. Saunders facilitates the accomplishment of SMART's mission by providing internal office support in a wide range of administrative management areas which includes, but not limited to, formulating, recommending, monitoring, and reporting on all aspects of SMART's administrative budget and financial management, provides managerial and organization support in personnel administration, facilities, property and supply management, contracting and procurement, information management, records and publications, as well as document and suspense control.

Prior to joining the SMART Office, Ms. Saunders served as a Paralegal Assistant in the Civil Division of the United States Attorney's Office for the U.S. Department of Justice, providing a wide range of legal and administrative support to Assistant United States Attorneys. She has served as a Legal Secretary in the Office of Immigration Litigation, Civil Division as well as the Tax Division, Appellate Section for the U.S. Department of Justice providing legal assistance and administrative support to Trial Attorneys.

Ms. Saunders began her federal career as a student under the Stay-In-School Program with the Office of Personnel Management in Washington, D.C. She currently has 23 years of federal government service.
