Are cancer stem cells responsible for cancer recurrence after treatment? Cancer stem cell theory has been proposed to explain tumor recurrence after cancer chemotherapy. Although there are some disagreements about the markers and even the existence of cancer stem cells. This theory is still the best to explain a lot of biology in cancer treatment. The question is to provide evidence for the cancer stem cell hypothesis.

I think the research needs to focus on the most-hard-to-kill cancer stem cells rather than pre-cancer or progenitor cells that can be easily killed and have limited application potential for cancer treatment.

I fully agree that cancer stem-cell/progenitor-cell research should be pursued vigorously. Additional questions include: 1) How does cancer stem-cell/progenitor cell arise from normal stem cell/adult differentiated cell? 2) Are they involved in cancer metastasis? If so (most likely yes), then how?
