Building Blocks Workshop Resources

One of the goals for Building Blocks is to reach out to parents and caregivers everywhere. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is sponsoring ongoing, hands-on workshops in communities across the country to introduce the concept of risk and protective factors and prevention.

Unfortunately, these workshops can reach only a limited audience. It’s our hope that the training materials provided here will invite other districts, schools, and community groups to reach out to parents and caregivers. Included is:

  • Facilitator’s manual: This easy-to-follow workshop guide provides all the information you’ll need to set up and implement your own workshops. You’ll find FAQs; techniques and tips; and a step-by-step plan, complete with agenda, materials, and procedures. Use them to help you through your presentation of the materials and concepts in the PowerPoint slides and participant handouts listed below.
  • Participant handouts (PDF): This is the core of your workshop, and includes note pages for the PowerPoint slides listed below, case studies, action plans, and more. Get all the resources your workshop attendees will need to participate in this interactive experience.
  • PowerPoint presentation: These colorful slides lead your participants through the workshop in conjunction with the participant handouts listed above. Each slide has presentation notes and can be used as a slide presentation or can be printed as overheads, if LCD projector technology is unavailable.

Please note—to view documents in PDF format, you must have Adobe’s free Acrobat Reader software. If you do not already have this software installed on your computer, please download it from Adobe's Web site.
