The 2009 totals for employment, sales, and capital expenditures of U.S. parent companies, majority-owned foreign affiliates, and majority-owned U.S. affiliates have been superseded by data released in the April 18th 2012 press release.
Direct Investment & Multinational Companies (MNCs)
Selected data on inward and outward direct investment, including balance of payments and direct investment position data (from as early as 1980 to the most recently available year) and financial and operating data of multinational companies (from 1997 to the most recently available year), are available through this interactive system.
- Balance of payments and direct investment position data cover transactions and positions between parent companies and their affiliates.
- Financial and operating data provide a wide variety of indicators of the financial structure and operations of the firms involved.
- U.S. direct investment abroad (outward direct investment) is ownership by a U.S. investor of at least 10 percent of a foreign business.
- Foreign direct investment in the United States (inward direct investment) is ownership by a foreign investor of at least 10 percent of a U.S. business.
