Faculty and Mentorship
Overview
A critical part of fellowship or more advanced training in rheumatology at the NIH is mentorship by faculty. Because NIH faculty does not have to write grants or teach large volumes of coursework, they generally have more time to mentor trainees and are very dedicated to this role. Our core program faculty consists of rheumatologists and scientists based in the NIAMS and closely collaborating groups in other Institutes.
Clinical fellows select a primary faculty mentor at the NIH from the core faculty or affiliated faculty with whom to work during the research phase of training. Co-mentorship by more than one faculty member is common, and fellows and scholars also assemble a group of faculty beyond the primary mentors to serve as an advisory committee.
