March Monthly Steel Fact Sheet

 

The preliminary data released show that overall steel imports in March 2009 decreased 5.30 percent from February 2009.  This change in the March total amount of steel imports was due to decreases in several categories including carbon and alloy blooms, billets and slabs (-40.59%), plates in coils (-35.67%), and stainless blooms, billets and slabs (-30.86%). Notable increases included carbon and alloy reinforcing bars (154.90%) and line pipe (24.38%). March 2009 imports of steel mill products were down 41.47 percent compared to March 2008.
