Commerce Trade Official Launches Energy Efficiency Trade MIssion to Russia in Moscow
Under Secretary Sánchez and U.S. trade delegation to explore export opportunities
MOSCOW – Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sánchez arrived in Moscow today for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s first-ever energy efficiency trade mission to Russia accompanied by a trade delegation of 13 U.S. firms. U.S. companies that provide a broad range of technologies within the energy efficiency, smart grid, and smart building sectors are visiting Moscow and St. Petersburg in search of export opportunities. The mission comes at a pivotal time as Russia nears accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) this summer.
“Russia presents promising opportunities for U.S. manufacturers that offer products and services in the clean technologies industries,” Sánchez said. “New legislation and Russia’s national goals addressing energy inefficiency and climate change are creating a demand for the high-quality, energy-efficient products and services available from the companies on this mission.”
Sánchez will meet with Russia’s Energy Agency to discuss policy initiatives that will impact energy generation, conservation, and environmental projects. He will also participate in discussions with both Russian and American business organizations regarding the opportunities to expand U.S. exports and investment in this critical market. Participating firms will gain market insights, make industry contacts, solidify business strategies, and advance specific projects with the goal of increasing U.S. exports to this critical trading partner.
U.S. merchandise exports to Russia doubled from 2005 to 2010, and grew almost 40 percent in 2011 to more than $8 billion. U.S. exports stand to benefit as Russia opens its markets further under the WTO.
The following companies are participating in the mission:
- Alternative Petroleum Technologies -Reno, Nev.
- Applied Filter Technologies, Inc. - Bothell, Wash.
- Black & Veatch - Overland Park, Kan.
- The Dow Chemical Company - Midland, Mich.
- Echelon Corporation - San Jose, Calif.
- Ecolab, Inc. - St. Paul, Minn.
- Kvar Energy Savings, Inc. - Daytona Beach, Fla.
- New Logic Research, Inc. - Emeryville, Calif.
- Oracle Corporation - Redwood Shores, Calif.
- OSIsoft, LLC - San Leandro, Calif.
- Raytheon Technical Services Company, LLC - Waltham, Mass.
- Teradata, LLC - Miamisburg, Ohio
- ValvTechnologies, Inc. - Houston, Texas
This is the second Commerce-led trade mission to Russia this year. In April, 12 U.S. companies from the automotive parts and components sector visited Moscow, Samara, and St. Petersburg, to explore opportunities in that expanding industry sector.
The trade missions support President Obama’s National Export Initiative that calls for a doubling of U.S. exports by the end of 2014, supporting several million jobs.
