About Holding Codes
The International Union Catalog includes records for books and other items produced in braille and audio format. Agencies in the United States and in other countries list their materials in the catalog. When deciding to list their materials, agencies consent to honor interlibrary loan requests from other agencies serving blind and physically handicapped readers.
To know which agency "holds" the material, the catalog uses a system
of codes. The codes may be used for keyword searching with either the Voyager
or the text only interface. When using Voyager, remember to enclose the code
in quotes if the code has a hyphen, e.g., "f-bph".
