Summary

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is initiating an audit of the Department of Transportation’s (DOT's) Enterprise Architecture (EA) program.  An enterprise architecture is a blueprint that describes the current and desired state of an organization or functional area in both logical terms (such as interrelated business processes and business rules, information needs and flows, and work locations and users) and technical terms (such as hardware, software, data, communications, and security attributes and performance standards), as well as a plan for transitioning between the two states.  The audit objectives are to determine whether DOT: (1) has established adequate baseline and target architectures; (2) has effective management practices, policies, and processes for the development, implementation, maintenance, and oversight of the EA program; and (3) is reporting actual results from this program.
