Marketing Channel Research and Development

Our Marketing Channel Research and Development cluster develops market intelligence and information to help agricultural producers, processors, and manufacturers better connect with buyers in the wholesale, retail, and food service sectors.

We conduct research to identify the needs and requirements of various stakeholders in the agricultural supply chain, resulting in technical reports and presentations that we share with industry and producer representatives.

We also develop contacts with relevant individuals and organizations to identify research opportunities and to carry out and disseminate applied research on timely marketing issues in partnership with universities, industry groups, State and local governments, other USDA agencies, and nonprofit organizations.

Some of the factors addressed by our marketing research and analysis include:

  • Emerging product trends
  • Buyer specifications
  • Quality control and assurance mechanisms
  • Marketing strategies
  • Wholesale market operations
  • Handling and storage requirements
  • Distribution practices and requirements

By conducting targeted research of the issues involved in the distribution of agricultural products and by facilitating the transfer of pertinent marketing information, we enable producers, processors, and manufacturers of farm products to more effectively respond to the needs and preferences of their customers.
