Overview of NIJ Activity Under the Recovery Act
On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed into law the landmark American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (the "Recovery Act"). As one of its many elements, the Recovery Act provided the U.S. Department of Justice with funding for grants to assist state, local and tribal law enforcement, to combat violence against women, to fight internet crimes against children, to improve the functioning of the criminal justice system, to assist victims of crime, and to support youth mentoring.
Under the Recovery Act, NIJ made 25 awards for a total of $12,064,054 under three solicitations.
- Recovery Act: Evaluation of Recovery Act State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance Program, two awards for a total of $799,136.
- Recovery Act: Evaluation of Internet Child Safety Materials Used by ICAC Task Forces in School and Community Settings, one award for $487,350.
- Recovery Act: Research and Evaluation of Recovery Act State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance, two awards for a total of $777,568.
- Recovery Act: Law Enforcement Technology Research and Development [1], 20 awards for a total of $10,000,000.
