EducationUSA, the State Department-supported network of overseas educational advising centers, offers accurate, comprehensive, objective and timely information about educational opportunities in the United States and guidance to qualified students and parents on how best to access those opportunities. This includes information about application procedures, standardized test requirements, student visas, financial aid and the full range of accredited U.S. higher education institutions.
EducationUSA advising centers also provide assistance to U.S. institutions of higher education seeking to recruit international students and provide information on foreign educational issues and systems to help U.S. schools establish or expand study abroad programs for Americans. Regional Educational Advising Coordinators (REACs) provide regional support and serve as the first point of contact for U.S. institutions.
The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs' staff in Washington, D.C. works with the U.S. higher education community, providing information on international education policy, global education systems, the importance of recruiting international students, how to cooperate with EducationUSA centers around the world and how to maintain an international student-friendly campus and website.

EducationUSA Advising Centers operate in 170 countries around the world within a variety of host institutions, including U.S. embassies and consulates, Fulbright commissions, bi-national centers, universities, public libraries, and non-profit organizations.

Advisers at EducationUSA centers actively promote opportunities for international students to study in the U.S. and respond to millions of inquiries from students all over the world each year. Advisers are not agents or recruiters and are not permitted to receive commissions from colleges, universities or agents. Advisers offer a wide range of services to international scholars, students and their families seeking reliable information and quality guidance about study in the United States, including:
- Providing accurate and impartial information about all accredited higher education institutions, including two and four year colleges, universities and specialty schools;
- Assisting in exploring appropriate institutions based on academic and personal goals;
- Researching and preparing for standardized testing requirements;
- Explaining and offering support through the admission application process;
- Describing options for paying for college and identifying financial aid opportunities;
- Preparing for the student visa application process and departure to the United States.
