Social Security Administration The Social Security Administration is the 11th largest Federal civilian agency in terms of IT spending in FY 2010, with a budget of $1.4 billion. SSA’s IT investments are focused on supporting the agency’s mission of delivering Social Security services that meet the changing needs of the public. Major IT investments in FY 2010 include Disability Case Processing System, Intelligent Disability, and Health IT. In addition to working on improving investment management, it is working to streamline its IT operations and secure its communication and information assets.

In order to oversee the management of the government’s major IT investments, the Federal CIO developed a metric for each IT investment based on an evaluation by the agency CIO of whether the investment is likely to achieve its goals.
