September is Recovery Month National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month 2013

Recovery Month produces a host of multimedia products to highlight SAMHSA's mission that behavioral health is essential to health, prevention works, treatment is effective, and people recover. These products include television and radio public service announcements (PSAs), the Road to Recovery television and radio series and Ask the Expert program, and a community event PSA, among others.

 

Television and Radio PSAs   

Each year, Recovery Month produces radio and television PSAs to promote the message that prevention works, treatment is effective, and people recover. The evergreen PSAs can be viewed onlined and are being made available to radio and television stations nationwide. By contacting us, broadcasters can request copies of the PSAs, which are available in a variety of broadcast-quality formats.

 

Road to Recovery 2013 Television  and Radio Series

The Road to Recovery 2013 is hosted by Ivette Torres, Associate Director for Consumer Affairs, SAMHSA/CSAT. The series airs eight programs supporting the 24th annual observance of Recovery Month. All television and radio programs premiere the first Wednesday of each month (March through September, with a wrap show in November) and are archived on the website for viewing at any time immediately afterwards. The 2013 season airs eight programs, featuring panels of nationwide experts from the field. Join host, Ivette Torres, for these informative programs. DVDs and videocassette tapes are available for free and can be ordered on the Order Television Programs page. In addition to the television and radio programs, visitors can pose questions about each program to an expert in the field through our interactive feature Ask the Expert.

 

Ask the Expert  

Each month (April through September), an Ask the Expert is featured, where you can get answers to your questions about the topics covered in the latest 2013 Road to Recovery program. Submit your questions using our anonymous online contact us system, and answers from our expert will be posted by the end of the month. 

 

Community Event PSA

The Recovery Month Community Event Television PSAs were generously developed by Odyssey Networks, a Recovery Month Planning Partner as an in-kind contribution that can be used by local organizations and communities year after year. Recovery Jargon

Recovery Jargon provides explanations of recovery and treatment terms that are used in Recovery Month programs and materials.

 

Video and Audio Podcasting

We are pleased to announce an alternative format for previewing trailers and full shows of our monthly programs. Cable TV and Radio  Access

An effective way to get your Recovery Month event covered by a television and radio stations is to contact your local Public, Educational, and Government (PEG) access television and radio channels. PEG channels are non-commercial and welcome programming that meets a community in need. Press Conferences

Every year, SAMHSA holds a press conference announcing the observance of Recovery Month held in September. SAMHSA also unveils materials developed to help communities plan and host Recovery Month events and activities and to help publicize the Agency’s 24/7 toll-free Helpline, 1-800-662-HELP. Road to Recovery Email Update

Twice a month, SAMHSA sends out Road to Recovery email updates to keep subscribers informed of Recovery Month activities, news, materials, programs and information. The Road to Recovery Update keeps you informed about activities leading up to Recovery Month in September and is posted here when disseminated.
