Dear Dr. McClure:

The Office of the Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been forwarded your appeal of March 27, 2003 and has received a copy of your initial information correction request of December 6, 2002 along with the CDC response dated March 13, 2003.

The preparation of a response to your appeal requires adequate time to conduct thorough and comprehensive review of the materials submitted and to hold discussions with key CDC staff. Due to competing public health priorities and demands on staff, including Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome and Bioterrorism Preparedness, we need to extend the deadline for our response. Please be advised that we will do our best to respond to you as soon as possible, but no later than June 27, 2003.

In your appeal, you also requested a meeting with the CDC. My office will be in touch with you shortly to arrange a mutually agreeable time to meet.

Sincerely yours,

Dixie E. Snider, Jr., M.D., M.P.H.
Assistant Surgeon General
Associate Director for Science
