Opening Exhibitions

Harry Callahan at 100
Callahan (1912-1999) was one of the most innovative and influential photographers of the 20th century. Celebrating the centenary of his birth, this exhibition explores all facets of Callahan's art in some 100 photographs, from its genesis in Detroit in the early 1940s to its flowering in Chicago in the 1940s and 1950s, and maturation in Providence and Atlanta in the 1960s through the 1990s.

Recently restored by the Munich Filmmuseum, the film's avant-garde sets and eccentric style dramatically upstaged the more widely known Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, completed just four months earlier.
