Hip Replacement

Frequently Asked Questions

16. Are there certain activities I won’t be able to do with the new hip?

While a new hip will relieve your pain and make it possible for you to be mobile, its range of motion will be more limited than that of a natural hip. To prevent dislocation, there are certain positions you should avoid, such as pulling your knees to your chest, crossing your legs, and bending your hip beyond a right angle. A physical therapist may teach you exercises to strengthen the hip, and proper techniques for activities such as sitting and bending, to avoid injuring your new hip.
