Disability.gov is a Web portal that provides links to information created and maintained by other public and private organizations. The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy and its federal agency partners do not necessarily control or guarantee the accuracy, relevance, timeliness or comprehensiveness of this outside information. Furthermore, these links do not constitute endorsement of the viewpoints, products or services offered on these external websites. All links are provided consistent with the stated purpose of Disability.gov.

Disability.gov does not collect personal information from visitors, unless they choose to provide this information to us. However, we collect and store certain information automatically.

What We Collect & Store Automatically

  • The name of the Internet domain from which visitors access the Internet (for example, Harvard.edu if visitors connect from Harvard University’s domain);
  • The dates and times visitors accessed our site;
  • The pages visitors viewed on Disability.gov; and
  • The Internet address of the website from which visitors linked to our site (i.e. if they found Disability.gov through a search on Google).

Disability.gov uses this information to count the number of visitors who view different pages on our site. By understanding how visitors found Disability.gov, we can make our site more useful to them.

Emails from Visitors

Visitors may choose to provide us with personal information through an email posing a comment or question. We use this information to improve our service and/or respond to the request. Sometimes we may forward emails to other federal agencies that may be better able to address the issue or concern. With the exception of authorized law enforcement investigations, or as otherwise required by law, we will not share personal information with any other outside organizations.

Comments on Social Media Accounts

Disability.gov reserves the right, but undertakes no duty, to review, edit, move or delete any material submitted as a comment on its social media accounts. When possible, we will remove personal information or delete comments to protect visitors’ identities. Visitors should not include identifiable information (an email address, Social Security Number or phone number) in the text of their comment.

Sometimes we may forward a comment and/or contact information to other federal agencies that may be better able to address the issue or concern. With the exception of authorized law enforcement investigations, or as otherwise required by law, we will not share personal information with any other outside organizations.

Privacy and Security of Social Media Accounts

Disability.gov does not necessarily control or guarantee the security or privacy of its social media accounts, nor do we control the personal information that is collected or stored by these external sites. We will make every attempt possible to protect visitors’ identities and personal information; however, visitors are subject to the policies of these external third party websites.

Security for Disability.gov

For security purposes, Disability.gov monitors network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage. Unauthorized attempts to upload or change information on the site are strictly prohibited and may be punishable by law.

Content or Image Distribution

Disability.gov is provided as a public service by the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy, the managing partner of the site. Content on the site is considered public information and may be distributed or copied, as long as credit is given to Disability.gov. The images on Disability.gov do not belong to the site and are licensed from various stock photography companies. Therefore, we cannot authorize the use of these photos to outside parties.

Purview of Disability.gov's Exit Disclaimer Policy

Disability.gov provides thousands of links to information from federal, state and local government agencies, educational institutions and disability advocacy and nonprofit organizations. We provide these links to help visitors access comprehensive information on disability-related subjects.

Once visitors select a link and leave Disability.gov, they will be subject to the privacy and/or security policies of those external websites. Disability.gov does not and cannot:

  • Guarantee that external websites comply with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (29 U.S.C. 794d);
  • Guarantee that the owners of these websites will protect visitors’ privacy – visitors are subject to the privacy policies of these external sites;
  • Control or guarantee the comprehensiveness, accuracy or timeliness of the information;
  • Endorse the organizations that sponsor or host these external websites, nor the viewpoints, products or services they may offer;
  • Authorize the use of copyrighted materials provided by external websites. Visitors are responsible for requesting authorization from the sponsors of these external websites.
