Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory

Marine Corps Combat Development Command

Quantico, VA
Mission

Through innovation and experimentation, the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory (MCWL) produces solutions for the Corps’ operating forces. Established in 1995, the lab creates technological and strategic advances in response to the needs of today’s warfighter.  MCWL works closely with the Office of Naval Research and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

Though small by some standards, the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratories eclectic mix of combat veterans, technical experts and forward thinkers combines to provide timely and exacting responses to current needs and future threats. Experimentation is continuous. The latest projects can be viewed below.

MCWL performs concept-based experiments. In other words it has the freedom to work with promising ideas, unencumbered by formal service requirements. The Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory strives to improve the lethality and survivability of the Marine warfighter.

MCWL's six divisions work across the spectrum of conflict providing solutions to today's warfighter while working on future challenges. These divisions include Experiment, Science and Technology Integration, Counter IED, Wargaming, Technology, Operations and the laboratories think tank the Center for Emerging Threats and Opportunities. The Business and Financial Management Office provides guidance in the contracting and funding arena.
