Naval Research Laboratory HBCU/MI Undergraduate Internship Program

Program Description
Research interns are active participants and conduct hands-on laboratory research, working a minimum of 40 hours per week under the guidance of senior Naval Research Laboratory staff. Students are expected to complete weekly progress reports. At the conclusion of the program, students will prepare written reports and make brief presentations describing their summer's work. In addition to conducting scientific research, the interns attend scientific and skill-set seminars on laboratory safety, ethics in science and engineering, job-search skills, and resume writing.
Eligibility Requirement
Internships will be awarded competitively to all undergraduate students. Undergraduates currently enrolled at a Historically Black College or University or Minority Institution (HBCU/MI) are encouraged to apply. A complete list of HBCU/MIs is available online. Preference is given to students who have completed at least two years of undergraduate training and are planning careers in science, mathematics and engineering. This program is not intended for pre-medical students. Prior laboratory experience is desirable. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, fluent in English and have a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0.
Stipend
Interns receive a stipend of $550.00 per week for the 10-week program ($5,500.00 total) and a travel allowance of up to $600.00.
