Creating a new Wiki page

The easiest way to create a new page within your wiki is to create a reference to the non-existent page on a wiki page and then simply follow the "blank" link.

Example: While editing a page I can simply add
[[New Wiki Page]]

Which will appear as: New Wiki page, or a red link.

Clicking on the red link I will be re-directed to a screen that states:

You've followed a link to a page that doesn't exist yet. To create the page, start typing in the box below (see the help page for more info). If you are here by mistake, just click your browser's back button.

At this point I can begin to start adding text to the "new page".

Naming a New Wiki Page

It is very important to be as specific as possible when naming your new wiki page so as to avoid name duplication throughout the lifespan of the wiki.

For example, if an annual meeting will be held in April of 2007, naming it: MSM PI Meeting would be too generic. Future annual meetings would have a harder time naming and referencing their webpage in an efficient manner.

Therefore, a name such as: 2007 MSM PI Meeting would be more specific and appropriate.

Categorizing a New Wiki Page

A wiki category is a software feature of MediaWiki that provides automatic indexes that are useful to users in searching and navigating the wiki page.

A category can be added to a page by typing the following:

[[Category:Category Name]]

Categories should be added to pages upon creation of the new wiki page and can be edited throughout the life of the page.

For the purpose of the IMAG wiki, all pages linking to and from a working group page should be categorized by the appropriate working group.

For example, a model sharing workshop planned by Working Group 1 may be linked to the "IMAG/MSM Events" Page, but also categorized as "Working Group 1".
