caBIG® and China

“Through our work, we are creating an atmosphere in which our scientists can develop novel therapies that wil benefit the people of China, the United States, and populations all over the world.” – H. Kim Lyerly, M.D., Duke University Comprehensive Cancer Center

Background

Founded in 1976, the Beijing Cancer Hospital (Peking University School of Oncology and Beijing Institute for Cancer Research) is a cancer prevention and treatment research center that provides medical treatment, education, research prevention, and rehabilitation services. The Beijing Cancer Hospital is one of the most renowned cancer treatment hospitals in China—treating more than 150,000 patients per year—and represents a substantial data source for cancer researchers worldwide.

About the Partnership

The Duke University Comprehensive Cancer Center (DCCC) and the Beijing Cancer Hospital launched a pilot collaboration in 2009 using caBIG® tools and technology. This collaboration marks the first clinical trial in China to conduct all patient registrations electronically and will utilize caBIG® applications for clinical trials management. The DCCC is also helping to facilitate adoption of caBIG® standards in the broader Chinese health system.
