Retirement Information

Many Army National Guard Soldiers make the commitment to stay in the Guard for twenty years or more.  Those who do have a number of benefits available to them, including retirement pay (which begins at age 60), "Space-A" travel, survivor benefit plan, SGLI, PX/BX/Commissary privileges, transient billeting and legal assistance.

Some states offer additional benefits for their retired Guardsmen.

The Army G-1 has published an Army National Guard information guide regarding non-regular retirement.

You can get more retirement assistance from various sources including your state's Military Personnel Management Office or state RPAM (Retirement Points Accounting Manager), the Retirement Services Office at Army installations (armyg1.army.mil/rso/rso.asp), the Department of Defense Instruction (DODI) 1215.7 (dtic.mil/whs/directives/corres/pdf/121507p.pdf) or your unit readiness NCO.  In addition, there are Army Transition Centers available to help you.

To receive Army Echoes (a newsletter for Army retirees) by email, go to armyg1.army.mil/rso/echoes.asp .

An excellent article about Army National Guard retirement can be found on page 15 of the May - June 2009 Foundations Magazine.
