INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIVE BIODIVERSITY GROUPS (ICBG)

The ICBG are supported by the Cooperative Agreement mechanism, with funds from nine components of the NIH, the National Science Foundation, and the Foreign Agricultural Service of the USDA. At present there are six active biodiversity groups searching for drugs to treat a multitude of diseases including cancer. Geographic areas of investigation include Latin America, Africa, Madagascar, Vietnam and Laos. The ICBG program is coordinated by the John E. Fogarty International Center (FIC) of NIH. GCOB staff works closely with the ICBG program. Staff members were involved in early development of the program including writing of the original RFA. GCOB staff members are active participants in the Technical Advisory Group which oversees the ICBG program and provides scientific and managerial advice to the FIC. They also provide official programmatic oversight for the NCI.
