The University of Arizona Health Sciences Library (AHSL) will partner with the National Library of Medicine and the Knowledge River Institute of the School of Information Resources and Library Science (SIRLS) at the University of Arizona (UA) to provide internships in health sciences librarianship to Hispanic and/or Native American students accepted in the KRI program. The internship opportunity will expose Knowledge River Institute students to career opportunities in health sciences librarianship by providing a working internship at AHSL. The internships experience will also enrich the ongoing services and outreach projects of AHSL by leveraging cultural and language-skill expertise of the KRI interns to inform and enable AHSL staff to better meet the health information needs of Hispanic Americans and Native Americans in Arizona.

To further solidify the interns’ interest in health sciences librarianship, the internship will sponsor their attendance at a regional or national meeting of the Medical Library Association.

With support from NLM, the University of Arizona Health Sciences Library will accomplish its goals to attract minority populations into the health sciences librarian profession and to increase outreach services to underserved minority populations.
