SPC PETERSON & HIS MOTHER

Scott: My name is Scott Peterson. I am a Specialist with the United States Army Reserve.

Lisa: Hi, my name is Lisa Hicks, and we are here to talk about my son Scott. What I found to be very true about Scott as a child, he had a very strong will, and he was very determined. I feel Scott made the commitment to join the Army Reserve because of the type of person he is. I think when you're making such a major decision in life, it has to come from within the heart.

Scott: I chose the Army Reserve because their options seem best fit to what I want to do with my life. Because I want to become an Officer, I wanted to go to college, I wanted the freedom to move around. They really allow you to do a lot in the Reserve, there's a lot of opportunity.

Lisa: Scott, he had many choices, and we went over them all, but the main thing is to gather as much information as you can.

Scott: I visited the unit that I was looking at joining. I talked with my mother. We looked at stuff online, a lot of brochures the Recruiters had given us. They told me I was eligible for Federal Tuition Assistance, which pays for my tuition, and the GI Bill, once I completed my initial entry training, which is Basic and AIT. What my mother thought, and her feelings on me joining, I couldn't help but not take that into consideration.

Lisa: After everything we've been through, you know, I knew it was a good decision.

Scott: She saw me in my uniform, and she was all happy. And she, you know, came up and gave me a big hug and told me how cute I was in my uniform. It was nice.

Lisa: I was just so proud of him. I had never seen him look so handsome and so strong. I just couldn't be a prouder mom that day.
