Overview

Provide technical assistance to states and localities while receiving training in a real-world MCH environment!
Address specific, defined data or analytic issues to develop or enhance MCH and Children with Special Health Care Needs information systems!

Focus in any of 3 critical areas of MCH epidemiology

Data Analysis and Monitoring
Monitoring of diseases, injuries, and health conditions for their frequency, risk factors, consequences, and health service requirements, and analysis of epidemiological data sets.
Real intern experience: analyzed data on anxiety, depression, health status, quality of life, and sleep to determine the association between adverse childhood experiences and mental and physical health.
Needs Assessment
The systematic analysis, assessment, and projection of health needs and resources in a given population or community.
Real intern experience: conducted a needs assessment on women of child bearing ages to assess their overall health needs, risk factors, and barriers to care.
Program Evaluation
Monitoring, collection, and analysis of data to determine the effectiveness or outcomes of a particular program or project.
Real intern experience: conducted a process and outcome evaluation of Alaska's Birth Spacing Campaign.

Eligibility

Qualified applicants must be:

Master’s or doctoral degree candidates in U.S. schools of public health (accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health)
Enrolled in MCH or related programs that involve MCH studies
Finished with the project before graduating
U.S. citizens or foreign nationals who possess a visa permitting permanent residence in the United States

Application Process

January: projects and application open (rank up to 3 choices)
Feburary: Deadline for application
Qualified students are matched with appropriate opportunities—regardless of student or project location
March/April: Matches are revealed
May, June, July: Projects begin! (depending on requirements)

Time and Stipend

Duration: 12 weeks
Stipend: over 3 months to cover travel to the site, housing, and daily living expenses
