February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month

Teen Dating Violence Awareness MonthTo raise awareness of and solutions to teen dating violence, President Obama has proclaimed that February is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.

As we observe this month, visit the following Web sites which provide comprehensive information about preventing dating violence and assisting victims:

The Loveisrespect.org Web site now features an interactive safety planning tool with tools designed to assist youth and young adults in customizing a safety plan online. A safety plan is a personalized, practical plan that can help you avoid dangerous situations and know the best way to react when you’re in danger.

2013 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW)

2013 NCVRW Resource GuideThe 2013 NCVRW Resource Guide is available online in both English and Spanish. Designed to help communities and victim assistance providers promote awareness of crime victim issues, the Guide includes educational content, campaign materials, artwork, and a theme DVD. New this year are three pre-produced 30-second PSAs addressing child sexual abuse, child sex trafficking, and elder financial fraud. The 2013 NCVRW Resource Guide (NCJ 239229) and Poster (PS000025) are also available to order through the Publications and Products section of the National Criminal Justice Reference Service Web site.

OVC has also begun releasing FY 2013 discretionary grant opportunities and has announced a request for proposals to produce the 2014 NCVRW Resource Guide. This competitive program will award one cooperative agreement of $350,000 to a nonprofit organization, faith- or community-based organization, or public agency to produce a comprehensive kit that will serve as a resource for the victims’ field to support efforts to heighten the public’s awareness of crime victim issues during NCVRW in April 2014 and throughout the year. Apply by March 13, 2013.
