Plug-Ins and Third-Party Applications
Some files on our Web site are meant to be viewed with third-party applications, that is, with a utility that your Web browser does not contain. These utilities are free to download and use. Below are listed some types of files you may find on our site along with the utilities with which you can view them.
- PDF files: Adobe Acrobat® Reader
Portable Document Format (PDF) is used to preserve the content and layout of documents so that they may be printed or presented in exactly the way the author intended. You can download and get help using the Acrobat Reader at the Adobe Systems, Inc., site. The downloadable Acrobat Reader software is available at no charge from Adobe. Sometimes people using screen-reading devices may be unable to read documents directly in PDF format unless they have an accessibility plug-in installed on their system along with Adobe Acrobat Reader. This plug-in is available at no charge from Adobe. Adobe also has online tools that will convert PDF files to HTML on request. - Microsoft PowerPoint® files (.ppt or .pptx) and Microsoft Word® files (.doc or .docx): Microsoft Download Center
PowerPoint files are used in slideshow-type presentations; Word files are documents formatted for the Microsoft Word® word processor software. You can view either of these types of files if you have Microsoft Office® installed on your computer. If not, Microsoft offers free file viewers that you can download at the Microsoft Download Center.
Font Size
This Web site has a function built-in for increasing the font size. To increase the font size, click the plus sign (+) indicated in the header. To decrease it once again, click the minus sign (-). Alternatively, you can use your browser's zoom functionality to allow you to increase the size of the text. Follow the instructions for your own particular browser; some examples are listed below.
- Shortcuts that work for most browsers:
- Keyboard: Hold down the Control or Command key and press the plus (+) key to increase the zoom level; similarly use Control/Command and the minus/hyphen (-) key to decrease the zoom level. Return to the default (100%) level by using Control/Command and the 0 key.
- Mouse: If your mouse has a wheel, hold down the Control or Command key on the keyboard and scroll the wheel up to zoom in, and down to zoom out.
- Internet Explorer
- Version 8: Click the magnifying glass/100% button in the lower right corner of the window.
- Version 9: Click the Tools menu (gear/sprocket icon), choose Zoom, and select the appropriate zoom level.
- Chrome: Click the Tools menu (wrench icon), and use the Zoom tool.
- Safari and Camino (on Mac): Click the View menu and select Zoom In or Zoom Out as appropriate.
- Firefox and Opera (on Mac): Click the View menu, then Zoom, then choose Zoom In or Zoom Out.
- Firefox (on PC): Press and release the Alt key on the keyboard to bring up the traditional Firefox menus, then click the View menu, then Zoom, then choose to Zoom In or Zoom Out.
