The Heart Truth

From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I’m Nicholas Garlow with HHS HealthBeat.

Heart disease has red flags associated with it that you need to pay attention to. Some common symptoms of heart disease include shortness of breath, nausea, back pain, and overwhelming fatigue.

Dr. Nakela Cook is at the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health.

“The most common symptom of heart disease is having chest pain or chest tightness or discomfort in the chest.”

Don’t ignore the red flags. Time is crucial.

“If you’re having symptoms of heart disease, it’s important to take your risk seriously, and take your symptoms seriously, and call 911 if you’re having symptoms.”

The faster you take action, the better. If you are having symptoms of a heart attack, doctors can help you protect your heart.

“If we can save minutes, we can save heart muscle.”
