Federal Citizen Information Center (FCIC)

The Federal Citizen Information Center (FCIC) helps federal agencies and departments develop, promote, and distribute useful consumer information to the public. Consumers can get the information they need in a variety of ways:

  • Through printed publications
  • By calling 1.800.FED.INFO (333.4636)
  • By sending e-mail
  • Through information posted on FCIC's family of websites

Consumer Information Catalog - The Federal Citizen Information Center publishes a new catalog four times a year. The Consumer Information Catalog lists numerous consumer publications printed by the federal government. A complete list of publications is available online. You may find out how to order the Consumer Information Catalog and other publications online. If you have questions about your order, e-mail Pueblo@gpo.gov or call 1.719.295.2675. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, except federal holidays.

Consumer Action Handbook - The FCIC provides an easy-to-read guide that offers general buying tips as well as information on specific topics such as credit, cars, insurance, and travel.

National Contact Center (NCC) - The FCIC provides access to information specialists by calling the NCC at 1.800.FED.INFO (333.4636) from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. These specialists provide information regarding Federal programs, benefits, services, and contact information for various agencies. The NCC's information specialists also answer e-mail messages submitted through the USA.gov website. Please remember to leave your e-mail address if you would like a response.

USA.gov - This is the U.S. government's official web portal. It provides citizens with easy access to government information and services. USA.gov also provides access to a database of answers to over 2,000 frequently asked questions that contain citizen-focused links. This easy to use information tool is the same database used at the NCC to answer public inquiries. Citizens may leave feedback on each FAQ they visit.
