For example, one e-mail making the rounds warns that you need to register your cellphone with the Do Not Call Registry…

…or else you’ll receive a flood of telemarketing calls.

The truth? Telemarketers are banned from using automated dialers to call your cellphone. And there are no new laws that will change that.

Like any rumor, Internet hoaxes spread when we share first… and ask questions later.

And just because you trust the person who sent the e-mail, doesn’t mean they weren’t tricked too. They might even appreciate you letting them know that they don’t need to worry.
