Welcome to the first installment of the Interior Department's weekly video series, This Week at Interior.

In compliance with an order from a U.S. District Court, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced a science-based critical habitat proposal for the northern spotted owl that begins a public review process to determine what forest lands should be designated as critical habitat in a final rule that will be published in November.

President Obama continues more than 70 years of NPS history with his second inauguration. The National Park Service has been involved with DC inaugurals since the time of FDR.

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Regulation and Enforcement testified before the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.

Director Michael Bromwich says the name of his agency has evolved to now include the words "regulation and enforcement" making clear the agency's mission.
