Did You Know?
Smokey may be the world's loudest cat
How loud is your cat? This cat, named Herbie, is very quiet during his many daily naps.
A pet cat can be a great addition to a family, but can you imagine a cat that purrs louder than a washing machine or a semi-truck? A 12-year-old house cat named Smokey may set a record for being the world's loudest cat. Most cats purr at around 20 decibels, which is a little softer than a whisper. According to recent news reports, Smokey has been measured purring at 73 decibels, and one reporter measured her at 92 decibels! Her current owners say that her purring is loud enough to drown out TV shows and can be bothersome during phone conversations.
