The objective of this audit, which was initiated prior to September 11, 2001, was to assess the Department's oversight of cargo security requirements. We found that in the wake of September 11th, FAA and TSA have undertaken a number of improvements to strengthen cargo security. We also made additional recommendations to enhance the air cargo security regimen. The Transportation Security Administration has concurred with and is beginning to implement these recommendations.
