Quiz: Introduction to Casefinding

  1. Casefinding is a system for locating only inpatients who are diagnosed and/or treated with a reportable diagnosis.
  2. In the casefinding process, a suspense file is kept so that the status of casefinding can be ascertained at any time.
  3. Only population-based registries are required to perform casefinding.
  4. All registries have to use the same source documents in casefinding, but the procedures involved in their casefinding cycles are very different.
  5. Most government agencies only require malignant (ICD-O behavior codes 2 and 3) cases to be included in the registry. However, hospital cancer committees may require the registry to include benign/borderline or uncertain cases.
  6. The cancer committee must decide the data set and policy as to whether patient follow-up is done.
  7. The criteria for eligible cases in a registry depend upon the governing agencies of the registry.
  8. The completeness of casefinding must be monitored for quality control purposes.
