Melinda Gates Extols Lighthouse Sexual Reproductive Health Integration

 

Melinda Gates saluted Lighthouse’s Sexual Reproductive Health Integration on 13th of December, 2012, when she visited Lighthouse.

Gates was particularly impressed with how three months supply of Anti Retro viral Therapy (ART) is convenient for the women accessing Depo-Provera.

As of 11th December, 2012, 692 women had accessed family planning service, 754 were screened for cancer and 14 had Cryo therapy done.

Dr. Sam Phiri mentioned infrastructure and human resources as challenges faced in the provision of sexual reproductive health services.

 

 

Lighthouse Explores Electronic Learning

Widening its reach in capacity building, Lighthouse decided to explore electronic learning (E –learning) to allow more medical personnel attain their required Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points. Consequently two trainings were conducted in June and November 2012 to set the ball rolling.

Work Ethics and Professional Conduct was the first course to be piloted and was facilitated by Liverpool school of tropical medicine (LSTM) lectures. The training was both web and classroom based. Later Lighthouse through Professor Gerd and Dr Florian of Universities of Edinburgh and Cologne respectively conducted Advanced HIV management training.

USA Esteems Lighthouse Trust

 

The United States Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman commended Lighthouse for the role it plays in the provision of integrated HIV Prevention, treatment, care and support services.

Sherman, made the commendation in March at Martin Preuss Center (MPC)

UNC donates Cryo therapy machine to Lighthose

 


UNC donated a Cryo therapy machine in September 2012 to Lighthouse.

Linly Mlundira, clinic nurse says that the machine is used to heal small pre- cancerous lesions in the cervix.

By December 2012 a total of 14 women had small lesions and all had Cryo- therapy done within the Lighthouse.

At the mean time, all cases that require specialized care are referred to Ethel Mutharika Maternity ward.

 

 

 

 

 

Lighthouse Holds a Volunteer Get Together

On 22nd September 2012 Lighthouse held a get together for volunteers from the 19 Community Based Organizations (CBOs) it works with.

Deputy Minister of health, Honourable Hallima Daudi graced the occasion and called for all the community members, government and partners to work tirelessly in caring for the sick.
