The University of Zambia wishes to make a clarification on the report entitled “Soya is Linked to Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer and Diabetes”, authored by Martin Sampa, a PhD student from the School of Agricultural Sciences, UNZA.
The experts from the University are not yet in possession of this report and therefore they are not able to give any professional opinion on the matter. However, the University of Zambia wishes to inform the general public as follows: |

In accordance with the University of Zambia Act of 1999, Professor Enala Tembo Mwase has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Zambia. Professor Mwase has taken up office effective 28 January, 2013. She was until this date an academic member of staff in the Department of Paraclinical Studies in the School of Veterinary Medicine. She takes over from Dr Wilson Mwenya whose contract came to an end on 31 December 2012. The University expresses its gratitude to Dr Mwenya for putting in full six (6) years of dedicated service. |

Confucius Institute to be constructed at UNZA |
The University of Zambia and China Urban Construction Design and Research Institute (CUCD) on 23 December 2012, signed a contract for the construction of the Confucius Institute at University of Zambia.
The minutes and the Design Contract were signed by Mrs Sherry Mary-Anne Thole (UNZA Council Chairperson) on behalf of University of Zambia and Mr Du Jianxia (CUCD Vice President) signed for and on behalf of the China Urban Construction Design and Research Institute. The signing ceremony was held at the office premises of CUCD in Beijing-China. The University of Zambia Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Directors of Confucius Institute in Zambia, the CUCP Advisor and Senior Engineers witnessed the signing of the Contract.
Pursuant to the signing of the Design Contract, CUCD through the Peoples’ Republic of China, will undertake to procure the services of a Chinese Construction Firm to come and construct the Confucius Institute at the University. CUCD indicated that the construction firm would move on site at the earliest in late March or early April 2013. |

UNZA enrols more distance students |
University of Zambia has this academic year enrolled a record figure of 6,526 distance students out of which 3,500 students are expected to attend the Lusaka residential session. This was disclosed by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stephen Simukanga when he addressed distance students on 27th December at the Great East Road Campus. |
