Of the approximately 5 million children under-5 that die each year in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), more than half will die of diseases that could easily have been prevented/treated if the children had had access to a small set of inexpensive services. Why are there services not provided? Based on a series of randomized, controlled, field trails (RCT) on health in SSA we will attempt to address this question. The objective of the first RCT is to test an intervention aimed boosting health utilization/outcomes by strengthening communities´ capacity to hold their health providers to account. The objective of the second RCT is to assess how improved availability of affordable curative/preventive products affects health behavior/outcomes. The objective of the third RCT is to study to what extent small financial rewards can result in large behavioral changes with respect to reproductive health. |
