Security/Suitability Professionals Seminar: November 2012

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Federal Investigative Services (FIS) will host our annual Suitability/Security Professionals Seminar (SSPS), on November 14th & 15th, 2012, in Tysons Corner in Vienna, VA. This year's theme is "Insider Threat" and the agenda will include fascinating guest speakers, workshops, and FBI fingerprint vendor displays.

The topics for the SSPS Workshops include:

  • Security Executive Agent Road Map
  • Tiered Investigations
  • Government-wide Suitability Debarment Referrals
  • Information Security/Insider Threat
  • Foreign Issues
  • OPM Tool Box

The agenda will include plenary sessions featuring nationally renowned keynote speakers, OPM/FIS program updates, and an OPM panel discussion. Plenary sessions are scheduled in the morning for both days of the seminar.

Also featured will be six workshop topics offered throughout the two day seminar and each attendee will rotate through each breakout. All six workshops will be conducted on both days of the seminar. All participants will attend three on the first day and three on the second day, covering all six workshops. Each workshop is sixty minutes long and six groups will rotate between each workshop during the seminar. A continental breakfast, lunch, and break services will be provided each day.

An IT Systems Wing is planned with one section comprising of OPM information technology expert personnel who will answer system questions and provide one on one instruction and hands on experience for the Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing System (e-QIP) and Central Verification System (CVS). The other section will include an FBI expert and also showcase fingerprint equipment demonstrations and transmission processes from various FBI approved vendors displaying their respective systems.

The cost for the two-day seminar is $150. We will commence registration on August 14th. The SPS is open to Federal employees only - no contractors permitted. Payment must be included with the registration form and will be accepted by either Inter-Agency Payment and Collection (IPAC) or Government Purchase Card (GPC). IPAC payment is preferred. Since registration will cross fiscal years (FY), your agency will need to ensure registration is submitted within the deadlines for the appropriate fiscal year for the obligation.

Registration will commence August 14, 2012 - any registration received prior to August 14, 2012 will be returned.The following dates factor into the registration process:

  • FY12 payments -- registration will be open from August 14, 2012 to September 21, 2012
  • FY13 payments -- registration will be open from October 12, 2012 to October 31, 2012

Due to fiscal year end closing processes, registration forms should not be submitted between September 22nd and October 11th.

The final registration deadline is Wednesday, October 31, 2012.  We will be able to accommodate 500 attendees. If registration exceeds 500, agencies will be limited to an appropriate number of representatives. Notices will be sent confirming registration status directly to the attendee's email address listed on the registration form. No refunds or substitutions will be permitted after Wednesday, October 31, 2012.
